Green Thinking has successfully completed many solar lighting projects throughout Australia. We have selected a couple of examples to demonstrate how effective solar lighting can be, where normally only mains powered lighting would have been considered.
The Rural City of Murray Bridge (RCMB) had received regular feedback from residents of Mypolonga about a dangerous unlit country intersection, in particular during the summer months when the number of holiday makers increased.
Despite a high voltage power line practically running directly over the top of the intersection, the Council was advised that the installation of mains powered street lighting was not feasible. They investigated the possibility of using solar powered lighting and found that it was a practical, economic and responsible solution.
Green Thinking installed three solar powered street lights that operate all night long, all year round and provide lighting in accordance with Australian Standards AS/NZS 1158.3.1 for Category P4.
Mr Martin Waddington, Manager Infrastructure and Technical Services, RCMB said: “The opportunity to adopt solar powered street lighting at this location was too good to miss and we're delighted with the result”.
